and i found the onboard soundcard worked a lot better for production etc on the road than the 0202 with all the stutter issues. This year i was using it mainly on a ulv laptop (with 64 bit win7) as i was on the road a lot. and after testing on different machines, i've come to accept this as a major flaw, rendering it quite useless for me atm as all my machines run win7. i didn't want to blame it on the (vista/compatible) drivers as the interface seemed to work just like in xp after i upgraded, but after a month or so i started getting a lot of dropouts, stuttering etc. my experience on windows xp and mac os was smooth, but it became troublesome on windows 7. I've used cubase 3 and 4, ableton live 6 through 8, reaper, various audio editors and video nles fine for the most part. The control panel is rather basic, and you have to experiment on your own pc with the latency settings for asio to get a satisfactory result, especially if you are going to use controllers/keyboards. i've used it in windows xp sp3 32 bit, windows 7 pro 32 and 64 bit, and in mac os x.
afaik, unfortunately there is no patchmix for the 0202/0404 USB. I've had the 0202 USB for almost 2 years now.
It cost 2x's the emu (yes i know you get what you pay for) Also, no internal mixer (?) Cons- I have read on numerous threads here and elsewhere that they have weird issues with not working, eg turning off and on for no reason, and can be a pain to configure (and keep configured). Cons- its discontinued (and the 0404 is not bus powered), and a little concerned about emu's lack of driver support, tho the vista drivers are rumored to work fine with 7įocusrite- pros- seemingly better build quality, set up for djs. I also have emu x2, and it integrates nicely with patchmix. Id like to narrow the topic to specifically windows 7, too, as thats what i am now using and will not be switching to anything else.ĮMU 0202- pros- inexpensive and i am used to patchmix with my desktop. I will be using this card for 99% djing in ableton, with the occasional hotel room production. If you have owned either of these bus powered cards, Id like a little more info from you, namely your experience with them (Ive already done the research on specs).
